Save the Wildlife

Did you know that the plastic you don't recycle kills innocent animals? I guess you could say we're murderers. Although we don't mean for this to happen, it does and we desperately need to stop. I am speaking to you today because our actions are causing the death of many animals.

Are we expected to sit around letting animals suffer from eating the plastic we don't recycle? The answer is a simple no. This needs to be dealt with immediately or else more and more animals are going to be extinct before your child's lifetime.

The animals aren't the only ones suffering, we are too. Plastic pollutes the air by letting out toxic gases which makes us very sick. If nothing is done we're going to need a lot more hospitals.

Another major problem is that the plastic doesn't break down and ends up in the sea. Seals, sharks, dolphins and other marine animals get caught in the rubbish leaving them to drown. Others starve from being muzzled by the plastic.

What we are doing is a crime and we need to stop. Just think about the poor animals being affected by our actions. Let's start to reuse, reduce and recycle for a better quality of life.

Rail trail writing 2017

RAIL TRAIL

We arrive at Little River where we will begin our long bike to Motukarara. Everyone is full of energy and excitement while waiting for the parents to arrive back from dropping their cars off at our destination.

Wendy sends the first group off, then the second, now the third and finally the fourth group, which was my group. We cycle next to a row of trees, then alongside Lake Ellesmere. We listen to the birds squawking as we went pass.

The rail trail had a few challenging obstacles on the way to Motukarara, there were gates and very narrow bridges that  unexpectedly dropped at the end of each bridge. We have a little bit more biking to do before we reach the spot that we will have lunch at.

The area we were going to eat our lunch at had a massive rock that was possible to climb. My friends and I climbed to the top of the rock and looked out over Lake Ellesmere. The sights were incredible, so we went back down to the bottom of the rock to grab our cameras then made our way back up the steep rock to take so photos.

After that Charlise and I jumped back on our bikes and finished the rail trail, passing amazing scenery and being the first girls to cross
the finish line. The weather being so hot and barely any shade we were exhausted.

Favorite Item

I was only a baby when I got a white fleece that I loved very much. The smell of it freshly washed was like walking pass the lush store. At the age of ten mum would try to hide my fleece from me, she would hide it in the most unusual places. The one time i was being naughty and she threw it in the fire, at least the fire wasn’t going. Another time my family and I went to the beach in my grandparents camper van, we were already halfway there when I couldn’t find my blanket. I had just then realised that it was at home and i’ve forgotten it. I was so upset that my Nana went into the nearest shop to buy me a brand new fleece. I was ecstatic when I got this new fleece but… it didn’t feel the same as my fleece, it didn’t look the same and it didn’t smell like I imagined it would. I was a little bit disappointed but also very appreciative.

School should start later

School should start later

Do you wish you had more time in the mornings to get ready for school and have breakfast? To prevent this I thought maybe school should start at 10:00 instead of 9:00. Hi I'm Jessica and I'm here to argue my point which is school should start later. I dislike it when I get to school and the teachers are grumpy and the students are tired, really tired.

If school started later students would have had time to properly wake up, get ready and have breakfast without being rushed out the door with a 80% chance of forgetting something, which I always do. Did you know that having breakfast equals better behavior and lends to higher test results, which we all want that.

Students that walk or scooter to school will know how cold and horrible the winter mornings are. I know these students would be much happier if they came to school when the temperature in the morning was warmer which usually happens on winter morning.

Teachers arrive at school hours before the students and when the students get to their classroom they can instantly tell that the teachers have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. By starting school later teachers would be able to sleep for a little bit longer and hopefully they will wake up on the right side of the bed!

My friends are always asking me “why are you crying” and then I say “I'm not crying, I'm just really tired” and when I’m tired I make, typo’s in my writing, reading errors and maths, well it's just a disaster. I know it isn’t just me my classmates are yawning twenty four seven, well most of them anyway.

Overall I think teachers, parents and students will agree with this idea and I think we all wish for school to start later so students are at their best and are attending school as much as they possibly can. I am sure the government will put it into to consideration and then students will be healthier and more concentrated.

Careers expo

The careers expo is by far the best field trip I've been too. It was really good because the stalls there were displayed really well and the people were all very nice.
I did a 1 minute CPR challenge and also Lydia and we made Wendy do it as well.
Me and Ellie went into an army van and they were having a wee challenge in there so, well Ellie and I couldn't resist.
